Audi Paint Code Location and What The Code Means

Before beginning the Audi touch up paint process, you need to find your Audi paint code. All Audi color codes are located in the trunk of the vehicle but can appear in a few locations. The Audi paint code could be:

  1. Under the deck lid of the trunk
  2. In the rear compartment
  3. Under the mat of the trunk
  4. On the well of the spare tire

Audi codes are typically found on a silver sticker in one of the locations above. Typically, the Audi color codes are printed on a silver or white label. The codes will be between two and four characters, and it usually includes numbers and letters.

An example code is: LZ6Q

In case you were wondering, the code above is for a Muranogruen Pearl 2008 A6 Avant.

Once you have the code, navigate to our paint code finder and order one of our products to ensure a perfect manufacturer’s match. Our range of colors, which include Audi exclusive and custom colors, will be delivered to you with free shipping.

Audi may use different names for the same color depending on the vehicle. This means that your Stratos Blue Pearl 2010 Audi Q5 could have a color name that is different from your neighbor’s car. But the two would still use the same Audi color code.

To achieve a flawless factory finish, it is essential to follow the steps below. It is crucial to complete the touch up paint process in good weather. The ideal temperature for restoring damaged paint is above 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Steps:

  1. Clean – Before starting, you must make sure the scratched area is clean. To do this apply grease remover and wash with water.
  2. Prepare – Use masking tape to cordon off the affected area so that the paint around it is not affected.
  3. Apply Primer – It is crucial to apply the paint in thin layers. Allow each coat to dry for five minutes before starting the next layer.
  4. Dry Overnight
  5. Sand & Smooth – Using 220 and 600 grit sandpaper smooth the primed area, this makes achieving a great finish easier.
  6. Apply Audi Touch Up Paint – Like the primer, aim to layer the paint in numerous stages. Wait five to ten minutes between each layer.
  7. Check – Once a few layers have been applied, see if the paint is in line with the area that surrounds it. If so, you are finished. If not, apply more Audio touch up paint.
  8. Dry Overnight
  9. Apply Clear Coat – Now that the damaged area has been repaired it is important to use clear coat to seal your work. Spray the clear coat over the area three times. Wait ten minutes before applying another layer.
  10. Dry Overnight – allow the vehicle to dry overnight.

Make sure to wait a few days before applying compound to the repaired area.

Should you use Audi spray paint or an Audi touch up paint pen?

When choosing the right equipment to repair your scratch or scuff, you need to consider various aspects like the size and location of the damage. There are several different products you can choose:

aerosol touch up paint
  • Audi spray paint is excellent for larger areas of damage and comes in 12oz aerosol spray canisters.
  • Jars of Audi paints are particularly useful for small scratches and scrapes
  • Audi touch up paint pens are also another option
  • Audi touch up paint pens can be helpful for small areas of damage

We value quality at ERA, and that is why we do not sell Audi touch up paint pens. It is important to us that we provide you with the best options available to restore your Audi to its original factory finish. Audi touch up paint pens tends to flake after a short time and don’t provide an exceptional finish. They are particularly poor for repairing metallic paint.

Spray paint works exceptionally well, regardless of the Audi car color. The spray paint which comes in 12oz aerosol canisters means you can even fix your Ice Silver Metallic TTS Roadster without fear of the paint flaking. If you had to fix a large damaged area on a Deep Sea Pearl Audi S45, you might need more than one spray canister.

For smaller scratches and chips, jars with applicators are the best choice. They give you the versatility to tackle minor scratches.

What equipment do I need to repair my Audi?

Repairing damaged paintwork can seem daunting at first. However, it is the cheapest option and means that you can avoid wasting your time and money. For a great finish, you need to purchase the right equipment.

You will need:

  • Primer is used in the early stages of the repair process and prepares the area for the paint.
  • You need OEM touch up paint in either a 12oz spray canister or a jar.
  • To seal the paintwork, you need clear coat at the end of the procedure.
  • Before painting wax and grease cleaner is needed to clean the area
  • To smooth the area after the primer has been applied, you will need 220 and 600 grit sandpaper.
  • To avoid other areas of your vehicle being affected, you need masking tape
  • To keep your hands clean and shine the car, get a towel.
  • To keep your hands clean and protected, you will need nitrile gloves.

To make the process even more comfortable, we have bundled most of the necessary equipment into bodywork repair kits. We do sell everything separately, but it can work out being more costly.

If I don’t fix the scratch or dent on my Audi, will it cause long-term damage to my car?

audi paint damage on door

It can be easy to dismiss a small scratch on your car and avoid taking any action. However, waiting to fix scratches and scrapes on your vehicle can have serious knock-on effects. We have outlined some key reasons to keep on top of the damage to the paint.

Steps:

  1. Avoid more damage – once a scratch or scrap appears, the area is likely to be further damaged by severe weather and temperatures. This means the damage will grow and spread.
  2. Rust – Once a scratch appears, water can seep into the underlying metal. If left, this can cause rust to the bodywork, which can eventually have serious safety consequences.
  3. Cost – repairing your Audi with touch up pain early on, means you avoid the risk of the damage growing and rust sets in. Long term it is far cheaper to solve the issue as quickly as possible.
  4. Resale Value – Allowing damage to the body of your vehicle to fester can have serious knock-on effects of its resale value. Last scratches turn into rust which makes the value of the vehicle plummet.

Overall, fixing the issue early can seem like a lot of hassle. But long-term it will result in the best possible outcome for you and your vehicle. As well as saving you money, it saves you time by helping to avoid body shops or garages.

What is the hardest color to match on a car?

audi perfect color match

The argument rages on about the most difficult Audi colors to match. Some people think it is the Audi exclusive colors, while others believe it may be the Audi custom colors. Anecdotal evidence has suggested that the Audi Quantum Grey can be hard to match.

  • Metallic Silver is said to be the most difficult to match. With metallic paint you not only have to match the Silver but you also have to match the metal flake pattern. The flake must be aligned in the same way, or the shading will be different.
  • Cars that have pearl colors, including white pearl, come in a close second and can be exceptionally hard to match for your vehicle.
  • Vehicles with solid non-metallic colors are by far the easiest to match.

While you shouldn’t pick the color of your car based solely on how easy it is to match the color in the event the body is damaged, it is certainly worth considering.
